Courage

Before we begin,
let us center ourselves.

Take a deep breath in …
and let it out.

Our Daily Word
is courage.

When we think of courage,
we sometimes imagine
something extraordinary.

A great act of bravery.

Someone standing
fearlessly
before the unknown.

But I have been wondering …

what if courage
is much quieter than that?

What if courage
is simply
the willingness
to take the next step?

There are times
when I want to see
the whole path.

I want to know
where I am going.

How long it will take.

And whether everything
will be ok
when I get there.

But life rarely
gives us certainty.

Sometimes
all we are given
is the step
in front of us.

And perhaps
we don’t need courage
for the entire journey.

Perhaps we only need
enough courage
for this moment.

For this conversation.

This decision.

This beginning.

This next step.

Courage does not mean
we are without fear.

It does not mean
we know the outcome.

Sometimes courage
simply says:

I am afraid …

and I will take
the step anyway.

Because there is something
within us
greater than our fear.

From Second Timothy :

‘God did not give us
a spirit of fear,

but of power,
love,
and self-discipline.’

Perhaps courage, then,
is not something
we have to find
somewhere outside ourselves.

Perhaps it is already there.

In the divine presence
within us.

Quietly reminding us :

You do not have to know
the whole way.

You only have to be willing
to take the next step.

So, I leave you with this :

Is there something
you have been waiting
to do

until you felt
completely ready?

What if you didn’t need
to know?

What is courage
is simply trusting
the light you have

for the step
you are standing on?

Let us affirm …

I trust the divine presence
within me.

I meet this moment
with courage.

I take the next right step

and trust
that the way
will unfold,

as it is meant to be.

And so it is.
