Dark Night of the Soul

dark night of the soul,
i stand —
a shadow cast
by my longing hand.

beloved,
how i ache for your embrace,
to feel your love,
your tender trace —

not only around me,
but deep inside,
where echoes of your warmth
reside.

and yet i stand,
trembling
at the gate —
lost,
unsure
which path to take.

i speak to myself
of shadows,
of fears,
thinking the abyss
holds nothing dear.

yet i have glimpsed
your most radiant light;
it blooms, it glows,
even in the depths of night.

oh, how the fight to let go
troubles me so.

help me, beloved —
open my heart wide,
to feel,
to trust,
with you inside.

and the Beloved whispered,
like the wind:

arise, most dear one,
meet the dawn
with no disguise.

even in the darkest night,
my flame still guides you.

for the soul’s true path
is the sweet remembering
of our oneness.
