There is a space between having an experience and having that experience witnessed.
Sometimes what hurts is not only what happened.
It is that no one saw.
No one asked.
No face changed when we entered the room.
And so we begin to wonder
whether what we felt mattered at all.
This is another place where the Gap appears.
We cannot always make another person see us.
But perhaps we can stop abandoning ourselves while we wait.
We cannot always turn toward the place that hurts
and say,
I see you.
Not to replace the love of another,
but to become present
to the life already within us.
Sometimes the witness we have been waiting for is the one looking back from within.
