When Love Learns to Breathe

Sometimes the hardest chains to release are the ones we made ourselves.

They were forged in moments when someone we loved was hurting and we could not make it stop.

We searched for the right words, the right actions, the one thing that might change the outcome.

And when nothing worked, we questioned ourselves.

What should I have said?
What could I have done differently?

Over time, we became so careful with our words that we began to lose our own voice.

We mistook responsibility for love, forgetting that we can be accountable for our actions without being responsible for another’s choices.

There is a difference between walking beside someone and carrying their journey.

Between loving deeply and believing we must prevent every sorrow.

Releasing those chains does not mean we love less. Nor does it mean forgetting what happened.

It means allowing ourselves and those we love the freedom to be human.

To stumble.
To learn.
To find our own way.

Perhaps love was never asking us to hold everything together.

Perhaps it was simply asking us to remain present, with open hands and an open heart.

And discover that love can breathe when we do.
